We started with the idea that skis should be incredibly fun, extremely durable and beautiful works of art. To achieve exactly that we’ve put together a select team of skilled craftsmen, aerospace engineers, master artists and expert designers.
OUR STORY
Our roots are in custom ski design. In 2009, under the name WSD we started selling full custom skis that were built specifically to the individual. After building new shape after new shape, our storage room quickly filled up with molds and templates. From the small tweak here and there, to the wild new prototype, we had built more than 100 unique shapes and sold over 1000 custom sets of skis. We chose our favorite skis from over the years to create a small batch ski company that's pushing the limits on skis, and Hinterland was born.

IT'S IN THE DETAILS
It's the details that set the great skis apart from the good ones. Sadly, mass manufacturing has turned the ski industry into a wash of mediocre skis mostly built in the same few factories overseas. Quality and durability disappears as investors choose to cut corners to make a little extra profit.
At Hinterland, we do the opposite; if there's a step we can add to make the ski more durable, more fun or better looking, we add it. We firmly believe that every single feature of every single ski has a reason and a purpose in the way that its built; none of which are to raise our profit margin. Hinterland is driven by quality and performance and is determined to offer well built, long-lasting products.
